Joanna C. Dickens

Joanna “Joanne” Cox Dickens died peacefully at the Pocopson Home on October 10, 2021. She was 85.

Born June 9, 1936, Joanne was the daughter to the late Lena Eva (Hauldaway) and Charles Estel Cox of Fox, Grayson County Virginia. After the birth of her sister, Joyce, the family relocated to Chester County, Pennsylvania when Joanne was a young girl.

Joanne attended Kennett High School during which time she met her husband, Carl to whom she was married for 69 years.

Joanne worked at Ways Roses and later in life spent much of her time working for the Kennett Consolidated School District. She was a caring food service worker who brought kindness and warmth to every student she served. Joanne was known for her kindness, which was boundless and her constant support of her family.

Once retired, Joanne spent her time in her garden, cooking, baking, sewing and watching the Food Network. was an avid admirer of nature, spending much of her time watching birds and animals at her home. Joanne also loved spending time at her second home in Potter County, where she and Carl spent a good deal of time at their cabin for over 40 years.

Joanne is also survived by her four children Robert (Bob) and his wife Terry of Smithfield, NC; Carol and her husband Joe Versagli of Landenberg, PA; Ronald (Ron) and his partner Suzanne of Avondale, PA; and Barbara (Barbie) and her husband Kent of Bradenton, FL.

Joanne was a devoted grandmother and played a great role in helping to raise her four granddaughters Jennifer Bottomley, Kelly McNeil, Morgan Wynn, and Blair Jones as well as two grandsons Cooper and Miller Lane. She also leaves behind by two great grandchildren Peyton and Logan McNeil.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Nell Martin.

Her family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Pocopson Home for taking such extraordinary care of her over the last year of her life.

A viewing will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a funeral service at 11:00AM on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. Burial will follow the funeral service in Union Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanna's name to Willow Tree Hospice, 616 East Cypress Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348
